Terra cotta soldiers, Xi'an, China (visited in 1988) --
They date from 210 BC, vary in height (183-195 cm); current estimates:
three pits, containing over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses,
and 150 cavalry horses (Wikipedia) -- simply amazing!
