Most project managers are promoted from technical positions, and their professional training neglected project management techniques. Yet these are needed to succeed in project management.

In this program, the background to modern project management will be explained, the key project management processes will be presented and some of the issues and challenges facing todays project managers will be discussed.

The Project Management Institute's PMBoK (Project Management Body of Knowledge) Guide is recognized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) as an IEEE standard.

The Canadian Council of Professional Engineers (CCPE) recent survey indicates that 58 percent of engineers in Canada spend more than 25 percent of their time doing project planning and project management leadership activities. Please refer to: https://www.peng.ca/english/index.html and select "Top 10 Work Functions reported by Professional Engineers".

The evening will open with a brief historical review of:

THE EVOLUTION OF THE PRACTICE OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT

    When Did It Start?
    Where Are We Now?
    What Have We Learned?
    Where Are We Going?
This presentation will be followed by a facilitated discussion forum:

HELP!

FOR PROJECT MANAGEMENT TROUBLES

Discuss project questions in a small group setting with fellow engineers and project managers.

What are the key issues that project managers are
confronted with today and how they can be addressed?
...You ask the questions!

* How has the practice of project management changed with
  the information age?
* What are the demands now being placed on project
  managers?
* How do project managers deal with the increasing demands
and the rapidly increasing expectations of clients?

Receive positive useful feedback from workshop participants
and a panel of experienced experts:

...professional engineers (P.Eng.), with
...project management professionals (PMP) certification.
