Abstract:
The City of Fredericton operates several Web Cams. A number of these
cameras are accessible from the city's web site and are very popular
with both citizens and virtual visitors
(https://www.e-novations.ca/
).
The recent City Council decision to install a "surveillance camera" in
the Tannery district has focused attention on the use of Web Cams by
municipal governments.
This talk will address the technical capabilities of these devices, how they are being used in other cities, current and planned uses in Fredericton including traffic control and tourism as well as surveillance of the workplace and public spaces), related forensic and legal issues, and look at future trends in the use of video technologies.
