IEEE New Brunswick Section, Point Lepreau Visit
The original announcement follows:
Date: Thursday, September 29, 2005
Time: 1:30 p.m.
Place: Point Lepreau
Nuclear Generating Station
New Brunswick
A small visit (of about 15 people) to the Point Lepreau Nuclear
Generating Station is being arranged for Thursday, September 29, 2005.
Although much of the facility will be off-limits, we will receive a
general presentation and visit a full-scale simulator used at the plant.
We will also hear about the development of the simulator's software.
Although the majority of participants are expected to be
Science/Engineering/CS students from UNB Saint John, IEEE members are
also invited. In particular, we would appreciate a few people willing
to take passengers from UNB SJ to the station. When you email to sign
up, please indicate your willingness to help provide transportation for
the group.
If the visit is a success, we may wish to identify other industrial
facilities that are willing to give tours to IEEE members and students.
Your suggestions for future tours are welcomed and could be emailed to
Janet Light (
)
or
Owen Kaser (
).
Security regulations require that we :
- submit a list of visitors to the station in advance. If you
wish to come, you MUST email Owen Kaser
(
).
BEFORE NOON on Monday, September 26, 2005. (Supply your name in the way
that it appears on your photo ID.) If we have more requests than
we can accommodate, preference will be given to those who can drive
and those who are students in CS or Electrical/Computer/Software
Engineering.
- have everyone bring two official photo ids. These will be checked
at the gate by guards at the station. Non-Canadians should
bring a passport and one other photo id (eg, UNB student card).
Canadians also need two ids, but can substitute a photo driver's
license in place of a passport.
- tell the station how many cars to expect and who will be in each car.
We will do this right before leaving for the station, and thus
any IEEE members travelling independently to the station need to
inform Owen Kaser.
